Vocal warm-up scales that move up a half step at a time

Vocal Ladder is a free piano accompanist for vocal warm-ups. Choose an exercise such as Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-Fa-Mi-Re-Do, the key to start on and the key to end on, and the tempo. The piano plays a chord and the melody, then moves up (or down) a half step and plays it again, until it reaches the ending key. With “Then back to start” it comes back down the same way.

Built-in exercises include Do-Re-Mi and Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol, Do-Mi-Sol arpeggios, a one-octave scale, one-octave and 1.5-octave leaps, and staccato. You can also write your own with numbers: 1 3 5 8 5 3 1--- is Do-Mi-Sol-Do-Sol-Mi-Do with a long last note.

Put several exercises in a practice set and turn on “Continue to the next exercise”: they play one after another, so a whole warm-up routine runs without touching the screen. Make as many sets as you like, for different purposes or voice types, and use Export and Import in the ⚙ settings menu to share them as one small file or move them to another device.

No sign-up and no ads. The sound is made in your browser, your sets stay on your device, and it works offline once opened. Add it to your home screen to use it like an app.

How to use

  1. Choose an exercise – Pick a pattern such as Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-Fa-Mi-Re-Do, or type your own notes in the box below it.
  2. Start and end – Choose the key to start on and the key to end on (the note that is Do). If the end is higher, the exercise goes up; if it is lower, it goes down. “Then back to start” comes back the same way.
  3. Tempo and piano – Set the tempo, whether the piano plays a chord before each key, whether it plays the melody with you, and the rest between keys.
  4. Practice set – Add exercises with “+ Add exercise”. With “Continue to the next exercise” on, the whole set plays in order.
  5. While playing – Use “◀ Key” and “Key ▶”, or tap a key in the row of keys, to repeat or skip a key.
  6. Share – In the ⚙ settings menu, “Export all sets” saves all your sets in one file. Whoever receives the file (or you, on another device) opens this app and uses ⚙ → “Import sets”. Sets that are already there are skipped.
  7. Your own notes – 1–7 are Do to Ti, 8 is Do an octave up, 5, is Sol below Do, b before a number lowers it a half step and # raises it (b3 = Mi lowered a half step), - makes a note one beat longer, / makes it half as long, and r is a rest.
  8. My patterns – “Save this pattern” keeps your own notes with a name at the top of the pattern list, for any set and exercise. Rename or delete them there; exercises that use a deleted pattern keep their notes.

This deletes all your practice sets, My patterns, and settings saved in this browser, and returns the app to how it looks when first opened. This cannot be undone. To keep your sets, use “Export all sets” first.
