Frequently asked questions
- Is Demo Track Maker free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no account and no ads.
- Is my recording uploaded?
No. Recording, the backing and the mix all run in your browser. Nothing you record is sent anywhere. See the privacy policy.
- What is it for?
Sketching song demos, practice backing tracks and arrangement ideas. It is not a full recording studio or DAW; for detailed editing, export WAV or MIDI and continue in a DAW. See how to make a song demo at home.
- Which chords can I type?
Major, minor, 7th, maj7, m7, m7b5, dim, dim7, aug, sus2, sus4, 6, m6, add9, 9, 11, 13, tensions such as 7(b9) and slash chords such as C/E. A box turns red if the name is not understood. See chord symbols.
- How many bars and tracks can I use?
Up to 64 bars of chords and 8 audio tracks, plus the bass, piano and drum parts.
- Which time signatures are supported?
4/4 and 3/4.
- The backing sounds repetitive.
Turn up Variation, put drum fills at the ends of sections, and try “Another take”. See making it sound less repetitive.
- My recording is late (or early) compared with the backing.
Adjust ⚙ → Recording latency, or move the take by dragging its waveform (long-press first) or with ⋯ → Adjust position…. Use wired headphones: Bluetooth adds a delay. See timing and latency.
- The backing is recorded into my vocal.
Use headphones instead of speakers while recording.
- Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in a recent browser on iPhone and Android. Allow the microphone when asked, use wired headphones, and keep the screen on while recording.
- Where is my project saved?
In your browser, automatically. It comes back when you reopen the page on the same device and browser. To move it to another device or keep a copy, use Export project (.zip) and Open project….
- Which files can I export?
The project as a zip (settings and one WAV per track), the mix as WAV or MP3 (128 / 192 / 320 kbps), each track as WAV, and the backing as a MIDI file with tempo and chord names.
- Can I use the backing in my own songs?
Yes. The patterns and sounds are made by the app, and you may use the backing you make in your own songs and demos.
- Does it work offline?
Yes, after the first visit: the app is saved in the browser. MP3 export needs a connection the first time it is used.
